I spent 7.5 lakhs to do MBA straight out of engineering college in 2012.
One of my college friends started an online business & spent 3 lakhs to grow it in the next 2 years.
The business didn’t perform well. Despite every effort he made to make it profitable, he made losses. After 2 years he decided to close the business.
When we met after 2 years, all I had to talk about was:
1- College life I enjoyed in MBA
2- A girl I met in MBA
3- Theories I learned in MBA
All he talked about was:
1- The new skills he built while he was setting up the business
2- His experience of interacting with customers in his business
3- His experience of trying to build an online brand from scratch
He didn’t read a single management book but he had more knowledge about business, marketing, operations, and branding than me.
I attended all lectures at college, read most of the books recommended by my college professors in MBA and I thought I understood business more than a normal person.
I was wrong.
After the conversation, I felt even the tea shop owner outside my MBA college knew more about business than me.
Question:
Do you think instead of investing 10 to 20 lakhs in an MBA people should start a business and learn by doing it?
Let me know your thoughts.
I shared the same on LinkedIn and its going Viral
